Mario Valentine Fiondella, 91, a long-time resident of
321 East Old Route Six, died October 9, 2019. A veteran
of WWII, he served in the 11 th Airborne of the US Army.
Prior to retirement, he taught mathematics at the
Universities of New Mexico, Florida, and Connecticut and
Technical College. Born February 14, 1928 in New Haven,
to the late Nicola and Assunta Barone Fiondella. He was
the husband of Joyce Helen Aubrey Fiondella. Besides his
wife, he leaves his brother Anthony Fonda of Westerly,
RI, three sons: Desmond von Bora of Willimantic, Derek
Fonda of Golden, CO, and Lance Fiondella of Dartmouth,
MA, daughter in law and grandson Renuka and Advika,
and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by
sisters, Concetta Carrano, Assunta “Sue” Torre, Florence
Pergolotti, and Anna Fiondella and brothers Phillip and
Peter Fiondella, Vincent Landino, and Michael and
Nicholas Fiondella.
