We are saddened by the passing of Marina Colon Lopez who was born on September 27, 1933 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was the daughter of Antero Colon and Carmen Mersia Silva and the sister of Isabel, Leonor, Zenaida and Esteban Colon. She spent her childhood years growing up in Santurce, P.R. and then graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She worked as an elementary school teacher for about ten years and performed with her younger sister Isabel in the Hermanitas Colon singing duo in both televised and nightclub shows. In 1962, she left the island and went to live with her sister Isabel Colon at Fort Devens Massachusetts, where she met and married COL (Ret) Andres Lopez, a U.S. Army officer. For 23 years, she honorably served her nation as a proud Army wife supporting her husband in Europe, South America, Korea, Vietnam and different bases throughout the United States. She was also the mother of Astrid L. Pabon (Lorie) and LTC (Ret) Andres A. Lopez (Andy). She was mother-in-law to Maj. (Ret) Manuel A. Pabon Jr. (Tony). Later in her life she also had the joy of becoming the grandmother to Sophia and Jonathan Lopez. Marina was an amazing woman full of life and love. A woman of many talents, a mother whose love was unyielding, a wife who always stood by her husband, a sister who always looked out for her family, a person who always had open arms.
We will Miss her terribly.
