Marilynn Lee (Mills) Bernecker, 84, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born to Harold & Leah (Brown) Mills on February 12, 1929 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She grew up in Lincoln attending public schools and later graduated from Lincoln High School. On October 12, 1948, Marilynn was united in marriage to the late Orville L. Bernecker in Lincoln, Nebraska. The couple lived in Weeping Water, Nebraska from 1948 to 1953 and then Lincoln from 1953 to 1956. From there, the couple moved to Humboldt, Nebraska where they lived together until the passing of Orville on October 22, 1996. Marilynn remained in Humboldt until her passing.
Marilynn was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she played the organ. She was employed at the Home State Bank in Humboldt from September of 1963 to April of 1985. Marilynn was an active volunteer at the Bruun Memorial Library and also enjoyed her time with friends in her bridge group, book club and volunteering at the Richardson County Fair. Marilynn acquired many friends while living in Humboldt. Some have moved away, but have kept in touch and others are still in her small community. She will be missed by all because she was the kind of mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend and pie maker we all want in our lives.
Marilynn passed away while hospitalized at the Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln, Nebraska on Sunday, January 5, 2014, having reached the age of 84 years, 10 months, and 24 days. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Marilynn is survived by her sons: Mike Bernecker and his wife Shirley of Plainview, NE; Jerry Bernecker and his wife Jane of Rice Lake, WI; daughter Judy Bernecker of Palatine, IL; Nine grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren: Kristi Preisman and her husband David with Brendan, Ethan & Colsen; Sara Gubbels and her husband Scott with Grant, Sydney, Alyson, Easton, Austin & Elyse; Kelly Lingenfelter and her husband Kevin with Karter, Kohen, Karalyn & Korver; Traci Baller and her husband Brandon with Tyan, Mason, Myles & Brysn; Jay Bernecker and his wife Miranda with Jayda, Jaxson, Lauren, Brynn & Mara; Jeff Bernecker and his wife Whitney with Gwendalyn; Eric Bernecker and his wife Lottie; Katie Marshall and her husband Paul; Lorie Haglin and her husband Dave; a sister Joyce Morgan of Lincoln, NE; sister-in-law Vivian Dean of Medical Lake, WA; and cousins: Mary Holsten and her husband Bob, Phyllis Watkins, and Maurie Strater.
