Marilynn E. Block, 86, of Freeport, treasured mother, wife, friend, and teacher, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Manor Court.

Born November 26, 1923 in Freeport, she was the daughter of John R. and Edith (Donner) Cook. She married K. Eugene Block October 1, 1949, in Freeport and he died March 10, 2006.Marilynn was a graduate of Freeport High School and the University of Dubuque. She was a school teacher for 23 years and taught at Pearl City, Freeport, and then Mendota. Marilynn belonged to Freeport United Presbyterian Church, United Presbyterian Women, DAR, American Legion Auxiliary, and IRTA. Marilynn was passionate about her daily puzzles in the paper, genealogy, and maintaining her connection to family and friends via snail mail. Best of all she was known for giving big bear hugs to all.

Surviving is her son, Randy (Ann) Block of East Moline; her daughter, Marsha Block of Greenfield, Wisconsin; her canine grandchild, Brady; sister in-law, Leona Block; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 sisters, Inez Getzelmann and Ena Mae Guyer; 1 brother, John R. Cook.
