Marilyn Spargo, 76, of Jacksonville, who overcame all the odds to live a full life in a body that was expected to defeat her much sooner, succumbed to the injuries of a fall on April 11, 2012, after a prolonged illness.
A determined and compassionate woman, she influenced and encouraged many through her dedication. Whether teaching children with developmental challenges, leading Girl Scout troops, teaching Sunday School, or managing R&M Appliances with her husband, she demonstrated her love for people, the importance of community, and she delighted in the little things in life.
She leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Robert James Spargo, whom she adored until the end, two daughters, Nancy Spargo of St. Louis and Ellen (Gary) Grasch of Roselle, and five grandchildren who completed her life, David, Kaitlin and Kevin Grasch, and Ashley and Stephen Spargo. She is also survived by her sister, Emma Prough of Jerseyville, and her brother, Jim (Carole) Terpening of Carrollton. She was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Mildred Irma Mundy Terpening.
