Passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the age of 85. She was born April 19, 1931 in Comstock to the late Elmer and Margaret (Trehearne) Coy. Marilyn graduated from Comstock High School in 1949. After graduation Marilyn was accepted into practical nursing training in Battle Creek where she found her love of taking care of people; especially children. Marilyn worked in several health service positions as a nurses’ aide and retired from the Kalamazoo State Hospital after 30 years of service to the State of Michigan.
Marilyn was a faithful and religious woman all her life and served as a member of the Comstock United Methodist Church, Sunnyside United Methodist Church and most recently the Yorkville Community Church. She was always active in the choir, teaching Sunday school classes and organizing youth fellowship. Marilyn also loved to use her singing talents in local community theatre where her most proud moment was starring as Mother Abbess in the “Sound of Music” for the Comstock Community Theatre. In later years she also used her creativity and sewing talents to serve as head seamstress for several other productions.
Marilyn loved the outdoors and took her several nieces and nephews for memorable camping adventures throughout the summer months. She loved all animals, but most special in her heart were her many dogs and turtles. Marilyn had several hobbies including; genealogy, cooking, sewing, crafts and party planning. Marilyn loved planning family reunions, telling stories and creating games for her great nieces and great nephews to enjoy.
Marilyn is survived by her brother, Eugene Coy; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Coy; nieces and nephews, Sheryl (Marty) Prescott, Tom (Vicki) Coy, Tracey (Jim) Stokes, Mary (Don) Gilzean, Connie (Chet) Rice and David (Lea) Coy; and several great-nieces and nephews and their children.
