Coach Marilyn Ramsey, 76, Southport, joined her Father in Heaven on Sunday, February 11, 2018.
She was born in Franklin County, IN on November 18, 1941 to Kenneth and Edna (Johnson) Ramsey.
Most notably known as the Coach of the 1980 Southport Girls State Basketball Championship Team, she has the winning-est record for boys and girls at Southport. 232-80 record at all levels of her coaching career, 5 Sectionals, 3 Regionals, 1 Semi, 1 State, Marion Co Champs, Coached 3 All Stars, Coached IU School of Nursing 62-65. IHSAA Basketball Coach of the Year and Indiana Central Alumni Basketball Coach of the Year 1984, University of Indianapolis Hall of Fame 1991, Southport Wall of Fame 2000, IN Basketball Hall of Fame 2005.
Marilyn will be missed by so many, she is survived by her daughter Jeanie Shackelford; grandchildren, Claire (James) Spaulding IV, Victor and Angela Shackelford; great-grandsons James V, Samuel, and Ezekiel Spaulding; Siblings, Harold (JoAnn) Ramsey of OH, Donna Mathias of TN. She is preceded in passing by her parents, brother Eldon Ramsey, and dear friend Mary Lou Walters.
