TONANDER, MARILYN N., Passed away October 19, 2014 at age 83. Marilyn was born August 25, 1931 in Kalamazoo to the late Vere and Vera Williams Schug. She graduated from Schoolcraft High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree and M.A. from Western Michigan University.

On June 20, 1970, she wed Ron Tonander who preceded her in death in 2010. Marilyn taught at Mattawan Middle School for 25 years. She was an active and faithful member of the Kalamazoo First United Methodist Church, where she served with zeal as chair of the building and grounds committee and trustee for 12 years and also volunteered in the church office. Marilyn was a member of the Ladies’ Library Association and the Kalamazoo County Association of Retired School Personnel, where she earned the Chapter Service Award.

She also volunteered at the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. Surviving are her two sons, Thomas Sandy Dailey and Steve Jackie Dailey; three grandchildren: Camela Shane Littlepage, Susanna Jeremy Breitweiser and Ross Dailey; seven great-grandchildren: Austin, Makena and Will Breitweiser, Zealand, Gracelyn and Elijah Littlepage and Evan Dailey; two step-daughters: Ronda Randy Kopchinski and Robyn Toby Boyle; nine step-grandchildren: Patrick Holly and Matthew Martin, Sarah Boyle, Lindsey and Alli Klingele, Courtney and Nathan Kopchinski, Malory and Samantha Pixley; two step-great-grandchildren: Lila and Virginia Snyder; two sisters, Carole Merle Case and Vera James Ginger; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; sister: Margaret Grunert; brother: Wesley Schug and step-mother: Emma Schug-Zimmerman.
