John D., Gary R., and Kenneth G. Cheshire announce the passing of their mother, Marilyn Joye Smith Cheshire, at Pine Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing in Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 8, 2021.
Marilyn was born the youngest child of four in Ogden, Utah on September 27, 1942 to William Stanley Smith and Laura Cecelia Peterson Smith. Marilyn Joye Smith and David Vaughn Cheshire were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 22, 1962. She held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including working in the Scouting program and being a merit badge counselor while she worked with her sons in Scouting. Marilyn was a joy to be around and had an excitement for life which exuded from her; Joye was her middle name and she showed it in her nature. She will be missed.
Marilyn is survived by her three sons: John, Gary, and Kenneth (Lori); one granddaughter: Abigail A Cheshire, nieces and nephews: Karen Greenhalgh (Mitchell) Robinson, Steven (Becky) Greenhalgh, Lesa A. Smith (George) Landrith, Kevin R. Smith, Julie J. Smith (Dan) Sheldon, and Justin S. Smith; in-laws: Ileene (Richard) McKinney, Lester (Ester) Cheshire, Darwin (Barbara) Cheshire, and Douglas (Lanada, deceased) Cheshire. Judy “Mel” Hule.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband: David Vaughn Cheshire; her daughter: Carolyn Joye; her parents: William Stanley Smith and Laura Cecelia Peterson Smith; her three siblings: Margaret L. Smith (Glenn) Greenhalgh, George W. Smith, and Richard E. (Rita J.) Smith; niece, Mary Jane Greenhalgh (Wayne, surviving) Rossi; her in-laws Vaughn and Mary Cheshire, Gerald (Adele, surviving) Cheshire, and the twins: Arvin and Marvin Cheshire.
