Marilyn June Williams, the daughter of Joseph Merrill and Leone Harriett (Heikes) Munsinger, was born July 10, 1925, at Tabor, Iowa. She departed this life on November 14, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 97 years, 4 months and 12 days.
She received her formal education attending rural schools in Fremont county, Iowa and graduated from the Tabor High School with the class of 1943 with a certificate in Normal Training. She was united in marriage with Dayre Marion Williams, her high school sweetheart, on June 28, 1944 at the Tabor Congregational Church. While her husband was serving during World War II with the US Army Air Corps, she taught in a one-room rural school. At war’s end in 1946, Marilyn and Dayre lived at Indianola, Iowa and then Los Angeles, California while he completed college. They moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa for a brief period and in 1953, moved to Clarinda, Iowa. In November of 1968, the family moved to Superior, Nebraska to make their home. Marilyn was employed for a number of years with the Superior school district as a teacher’s aide and greatly enjoyed her years in the class with the teachers and students.
Marilyn pursued a number of interests and activities throughout her life. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was an accomplished bridge player and shared her knowledge teaching bridge classes for many years. In their leisure time both she and her husband, Dayre, enjoyed boating and camping at Lake Lovewell. For many years they enjoyed attending Husker football games with close friends, Ray and Barb Norris. They also spent many hours at the Superior Country Club playing “at” golf. Marilyn was an exceptional cook and baker. She will be fondly remembered by her family for her pies and sheet cakes, all made from scratch and without measured recipes.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Dayre, on January 4, 1985; daughter, Candace Klaasmeyer on March 3, 2021; a grandson, Matthew Klaasmeyer; sisters Doris (Allen) Carlson and Beth (Gene) Closson; and brothers Joe (Irna) Munsinger, Luther (Jean) Munsinger and Warren Munsinger.
Left to treasure her memory are her sons, Dayre and Lu Williams; and David and Kim Williams; son-in-law, Al Klaasmeyer; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Molly (Brian) Quick and sons, Jarrett and Andrew; Tricia (Thad) Topolski and children, Will and Brynne; Abbey (Cole) Hansen and daughter Kate; Emily (Matt) Purvis and daughters Piper, Adi and Hensley; Heather Williams; Lauren (Jordan) Isaacson and children Avaleigh, Sawyer, Mason and Dean; Amy (Tim) Meyers and sons, Jude and Silas; Rhys (Kayla) Williams and daughter, Lennon; other relatives and friends.
