Muncie – Marilyn J. (Thornburg) Watt passed away on September 29, 2010 at home.

Marilyn was born on November 12, 1937 in Muncie. She was the daughter of Calvin Monroe and Mary Antoinette (McCleary) Thornburg. Marilyn grew up in Middletown and graduated from Middletown High School in 1955, where she was valedictorian of her high school class.

Although she did not graduate with her bachelor’s from Ball State Teachers College until the spring of 1959, Marilyn began her teaching career in November 1958 at Markleville Schools.

While at Ball State, Marilyn participated on the debate team and became active in the Little Shoestring Trent Theater and the Spotlight Club, working both on the stage and behind the scenes. During the 1957 – 1958 school year, she was the assistant director for each of the three plays presented by Spotlight. While at Markleville, she directed seven of the class plays presented by the juniors and seniors, and she taught the speech classes at Yorktown High School for nine years.
