Marilyn was born March 29, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Reed Cannon Bowman and Helen Elizabeth Lambert Bowman. She was raised by her mother and step-father, E.F. Pillsbury. She grew up and attended schools in Lapoint, Utah. Marilyn later attended the University of Utah where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree.
