Marilyn Ferguson Mullihan, age 87, of Spirit Lake, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. She was born on January 15, 1926, in Spencer, Iowa, to Samuel and Adeline (Cross) Mills. Marilyn graduated from Greenville High School in 1944, and went on to attend Buena Vista College. She was united in marriage to Paul Ferguson on December 24, 1944, in Spencer, Iowa. Paul passed away on February 23, 1979. She married Barney Mullihan on January 15, 1983, in Spirit Lake. Barney passed away on April 18, 2013. Marilyn taught second and fourth grades at Terril and Lake Center Schools for thirty years, including driving the school bus before and after school. She loved teaching the second grade! Marilyn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Terril. She enjoyed spending her spare time golfing, traveling, quilting, dancing and playing shuffleboard while wintering in Texas. Marilyn is survived by her son, Ken Ferguson, and his wife, Cherie of Spirit Lake; daughter-in-law, Janice Ferguson of Terril; two brothers, Don Mills, and his wife, Viola of Florida, and Gail Mills, and his wife, Bette of Texas; a sister, Ardyce Rush of Des Moines; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Evans of Spencer; step-children, Vicki Keagle of Urbandale, Mike Mullihan of Urbandale, Peggy Evans, and her husband, John of Collins, and Nancy Hermanson, and her husband, Roger of Story City; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and sixteen step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; son, Hal Ferguson; daughter, Faye Ferguson; sister, Jean Evans; and brother-in-law, Don Rush.
