Marilyn Elaine Smith, 73, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at Passavant Area Hospital. She was born August 15, 1944, in Anna, IL, the daughter of Virgil Fred and Freda B. Lindsey Clardy.
She is survived by one son, Troy (Pam) Smith of Troy; two daughters, Gayla Smith and Teryl Smith, both of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Meaghan Smith, Caitlyn Smith, Korbin Smith, and Skyler (Tori) Smith; three great-grandchildren; and her former husband, Larry (Jeanne) Smith of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her brother, Fred D. Clardy; and her sister, Janet Sue Mentler (surviving husband John Mentler and his wife Connie of Amarillo, TX).
Marilyn was a 1962 graduate of Jacksonville High School. Later in life, she studied for and earned a Bachelor’s Degree. She worked many years as a Cottage Parent at Illinois School for the Deaf. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Jacksonville. Marilyn devoted her life to her church and her family.
