Marilyn Doris Miner, 90, was born May 16, 1931, on the family home near Kanawha, IA, to Florence and Roy Rutz. She passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at MercyOne Hospice in Johnston.
Marilyn moved to Des Moines with her family in 1940. She graduated from Des Moines Tech High School in 1948 and Orange Coast College in California in 1968 with an AA degree. Her working years were spent doing clerical and secretarial work.
Marilyn married Jack M. Miner in 1949 in Des Moines, IA. Jack and Marilyn moved around the country to where his work in the aerospace industry took him for about 20 years. They returned to Iowa in 1969 and moved to near Cambria, IA and formed Mattco Land Corp. which they managed until 2012.
During the 62 years of their marriage they enjoyed traveling the U.S., Canada and several foreign tours. Camping, fishing, and enjoying our National Parks and any scenic and historical sites were on their agenda during their trips. Marilyn enjoyed reading, doing “fancy work”, playing cards and Tripoli, and donating her time to church activities and other charitable causes.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Jack, who passed away in 2012, her parents, five brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Stevens and many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family which have all been a Godsend to Jack and Marilyn over their many years together as they were all considered part of their family too.
Marilyn moved to Waukee, IA in 2013 to be near her family. Nephew, Dick Rutz, Dick’s son, Dan and his wife, Lisa. They helped her relocate and took much of their time looking after her and caring for her needs.
