Marilyn Darling, 82 of Emmetsburg, formerly of the Mallard and Curlew area, died Wednesday December 24 at Parc Hall in Emmetsburg. Marilyn Jean (Johnson), the daughter of Oliver and Jewell O. Mileham was born November 5, 1932 on the family farm in Curlew, IA. She attended school at Rush Lake #4 country school and graduated from the Mallard High School. On December 17, 1951 she was united in marriage with Stan Darling at the family farm. The couple lived and farmed in the Mallard and Curlew area until moving to Emmetsburg in 1977. Marilyn was a member of the United Methodist Church and UMW Circle in Mallard. She enjoyed playing cards, country music, attending the Curlew Coffee Club and dearly loved taking care of her grandchildren. She was also, and always a “Mallard Duck” through and though. Survivors include her daughter Linda Stavseth of Carefree, AZ, grandchildren: Heather Darling(Michael Leahey) and their daughter Ciaran, and Meagan (Andy) Rupp and their children Emmett, Elsie and Wyatt. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Stan in 1989, her son Larry, a sister in infancy and her “adopted sister” Eleanor Satern.
