Marilyn Ann Cherry
Highland Park- Marilyn Ann Cherry(nee Puetz) 82, who died on Sunday, December 24, 2017, was born in Skokie, Il on February 8, 1935 to John Jacob Puetz and Frances Czajkowska (Karas). Marilyn spent her childhood in Skokie and attended school at St. Peters Catholic School and Mallinckrodt High School. Marilyn later studied at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1956.
At Marquette, she met Edward “Ed” W. Cherry of Clifton, N.J. and they married in 1959 in Evanston, IL . Marilyn and Ed, who were married for 55 years, lived in Oak Ridge (Milton), NJ from 1964 until their retirement in 1996. In addition to raising four sons, Marilyn was a teacher in the Jefferson Township school district for many years. She was always involved in her children’s lives; volunteering as an officer in JTHS booster club, a den mother for Cub Scouts (Pack 51), and cheering on the Jefferson Township Falcon Football teams. Marilyn was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Milton, serving as an organist for special events, a Eucharistic Minister, a CCD teacher, a Rosary society member and officer.
Marilyn spent her retirement with Ed in Manahawkin and then Waretown, NJ as well as winters in Englewood, Florida. During her retirement, she became an accomplished quilter and was a member of the Sew Bees Quilters Club of Waretown.
Marilyn is survived by her four sons and their families, Christopher and Carolyn Cherry of Chatham, James and Christina Cherry of Hillsborough, Timothy and Elin Cherry of Westfield, and Joseph and Ali Cherry of Metuchen; and 9 grandchildren, Lauren, T.J., Marissa, Madison, Margo, Andrew, Hannah, Jakob, and Alex; her brother, Jack Puetz, of Skokie, IL and her sister Sue Wrege of Arizona and their families.
