Marilla Elizabeth Morgan, Liz, 100, of Hobbs, NM passed peacefully with her family by her side on March 24, 2023 just a month shy of her 101st birthday. She was born on April 27, 1922 in Graham, Young County, TX to her parents Charlie and Zula Holt.
She grew up on a farm in Sagerton, TX and travelled to school in a horse drawn buggy in her younger years before the family acquired a Model A Ford. She graduated high school there in 1940. Marilla won Haskell County and then went on to win District Singles Tennis Championship in 1940 held in Breckenridge, TX.
During World War II, while her brothers were at war, she decided to do her part by working as a drill press operator building P-51 Mustangs at North American Aviation in Grand Prairie, TX.
Marilla married Fred D. Morgan on November 16, 1946. They made their home in Hobbs, NM where they built their own house from the ground up. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Marilla started her own tree trimming business and worked for a local laundry briefly. She also attended NMJC.
She never met a stranger and would help anyone in need.
Marilla is survived by her son Ray Morgan, daughter Cindy Morgan Humphrey (husband, Bill) grandsons Kyle Humphrey and Klint Humphrey (wife, Chloe) all of Hobbs, NM. Also, several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers baby boy Holt, Aaron Holt, Harvey Leo Holt, C.K. Holt, Jr., John Holt, Donald Holt and her sisters Eula May Ribble and Eunice Guinn. Also, several nephews.
