Brighton Reservation – Mariel Johnanna Gopher died July 13, 2021. She was born September 22, 1969, in Clewiston to Earl Nelson and Mary Gopher. She worked with the Seminole Tribe for many years. She enjoyed rodeoing and spending time with her children. She was Baptized at the First Indian Baptist Church of Brighton.
Ms. Gopher was preceded in death by her father, Earl Nelson; mother, Mary Gopher; grandson, Brody Cochran; and grandparents, John Henry Gopher and Maude Gopher.
She is survived by her sons, Kholt Gopher, Guage Gonzalez, Jaime J. Gonzalez, and Diego Gopher; daughters, Ynez Gonzalez and Ysla Gopher; grandchildren, Rosalie Tiger Johns, Khoal Cochran, Koty Gopher Turtle, Kylo Cochran, Adoni Cochran, Leona Cochran, Greyson Gonzalez, and Koi Gonzalez; a half brother, Adam Nelson; half-sister, Andera Nelson Peterson; aunts and uncle, Lola Gopher, Beulah Gopher, Daniel Gopher, Ethel Gopher; many nieces and nephews; paternal aunt, Christine Navakoa; and paternal uncles, Ted Nelson and Samuel Nelson.
