Mrs. Marie Williams Davis passed from this life on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born on December 25, 1931 in Warrenton, North Carolina to the late Nelson and Sadie Hubbard Williams. Mrs. Davis attended North Carolina College now North Carolina Central University where she received both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science and Library Science as well as a Master of Library Sciences.
Mrs. Davis later relocated to High Point where she continued teaching in the Public School System. Soon after being in High Point she joined Temple Memorial Baptist Church and served in many capacities. Mrs. Davis’s church membership was transferred to Memorial United Methodist Church in High Point, North Carolina where she continued to serve on various committees including the Communion Steward Board, Sunday School, United Methodist Women and Christian Education.
Fraternally, Mrs. Davis was a charter member of Eta Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Other organizations included: The Guild of High Point Regional Hospital, North Carolina Association of Retired School Personnel, Advisory Council of Senior Resources of Guilford, and High Point Chapter of AARP, North Carolina Central University Alumni Association, Inc. and Friends of the Theatre.
Mrs. Davis’s parents preceded her in death in addition to one sister, Alease Steede, brothers Nelson Williams, Vernon Williams, Johnnie Williams, Willie Williams, Sammie Williams, and Barkley Williams.
Survivors include one daughter Tonya Lynn Davis of Atlanta, Georgia, former spouse and loving friend Robert “Bobby” Franklin Davis, sisters-in-law, Lessie Williams of Chesapeake, VA, Marguerite Sands of Cleveland, OH, Faye D. Gill of Westfield, NJ, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
