She married John I. Thompson on June 14, 1953, at First Brethren Church in Nappanee.
Her husband of 61 years survives along with three daughters, Valerie (Gregory) Hinkle of Goshen and Julie (Alan) Hinzmann and Lisa (Michael) Amos, both of Elkhart; and six grandchildren, Justine Amos and Marisa Amos, both of Elkhart, Sean (Tracy) Frick of Syracuse, Amanda (Allen) Hatton of Bristol, Lt. Katherine Hinkle (U.S. Navy) of Rota, Spain, and Jack Hinkle of Indianapolis and Goshen. Marie is also survived by four great-grandchildren and her sister, Eunice (Robert) Ball of Sarasota, Fla.
In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Thomas Holdeman.
Marie was a 1952 graduate of Nappanee High School and was employed by St. Joseph Valley (Chase) Bank for over 25 years prior to her retirement in 1996. She was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and volunteered in many areas of service to the congregation.
Marie took pleasure in spending time with her family and grandchildren, watching Indiana University basketball and enjoying life at the family’s cottage on Dewart Lake.
