Marie Whitney Downs, a 94 year resident of New Haven, died Sept. 10, 2010 in Beavercreek, Ohio at the age of 100. A former resident of Glen Haven Road in New Haven, she was the widow of Edward H. Downs. Born in New Haven Aug. 12, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Mary Bottolene Whitney. She was a 1928 graduate of Commercial High School and a 1930 graduate of New Haven Normal School (now SCSU). She worked as a claims adjuster with the Veterans Administration in Hartford for 42 years prior to her retirement in 1972.
