Marie Upton, 86, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008. She was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Carlinville, the daughter of John and Marian Jouett Dorsey. She married Roy H. Upton on Apr. 27, 1944, in Carrollton and he preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1987.
She is survived by three sons, Reginald (Nancy) Upton and John (Melba) Upton, both of Jacksonville, and Ronald (Becky) Upton of Alabaster, AL.; six grandchildren, Stephanie M. Upton of Jacksonville, Jason (Stephanie L.) Upton of Athens, Jon Thomas Upton of Alabaster, AL., Joel (Alyssa) Upton of Nashville, Megan (Cameron) Deshazo of Birmingham, AL. and Andrew Upton of Alabaster, AL.; five great grandchildren; and one sister, Zelpha Woodworth of Hannibal, MO. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald H. Upton; one sister, Wilma Bryant; one half-sister, Gale Hicks; and one half-brother, Bernard Lee Dorsey.
Mrs. Upton was a member of Church of Our Saviour. She had worked at the Jacksonville State Hospital for many years. She enjoyed being active, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
