Marie Green Powers 88, April 12, 2011, Flagstaff, Ariz. She was born August 11, 1922, in Pauls Valley, Okla., to Sadie and Charles Green.

She had a love of family, animals, music and gardens – served her family tirelessly in all that she did.

Long career in retail – buyer for children’s department of Hinshaws Department Store, Sockologist at Socks for Me? in Hillcrest Community of San Diego.

Survived by daughter Loretta Mayer (Cheryl Dyer, Flagstaff), granddaughter Tracey Hayes (Jed Hayes, Phoenix), brothers William Green (Donalyn Green, Yuma), Marvin Green (Orlando, Fla.), and sister Deborah Andrews (Donald Andrews, Atlanta, GA) along with a large extended family located across the country.

Grundy, Aunt Ree, Gam, Mom, Grandma – whose Southern wit and saucy retort brought a smile to all she met. Her love of tacos and homemade pecan pie fed your belly while her grounded Christian wisdom fed your soul.

One of eight children born on the family farm in Pauls Valley Oklahoma, Marie took great pride in the accomplishments of her family, including her husband’s service in the US Army during WWII and later contributions as a civilian engineer for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory on the Apollo missions. As well as her daughter’s accomplishments of being the first family member to graduate from college and later go on to earn her Ph.D.
