She was born December 17, 1934 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Marie was a paralegal in Anderson for many years and was a professional seamstress. Marie loved to cook and entertain. She is survived by her husband, Charlie “Yahoo” Smith. They were married for 19 years. Marie is also survived by her five children and five stepchildren, Darice & Gene Hardesty of Anderson, Marshall & Sue Needler of Virginia, Darrell & Bonnie Needler of Ohio, Jenae Miller of Missouri, Jon & Paige Needler of Anderson, Evelyn Conner of Michigan, Carolyn Gaerte of Indiana, Bonnie Smith of Michigan, Elaine Francis of Florida and Mike Smith of Michigan. She has 10 grandchildren, Doug and Nikki Needler of Anderson, Katie Needler, Evan Hardesty of Anderson, Jonathan Needler of Florida, Ashlea Miller of Misouri, Daren Hardesty of Anderson, Jared Needler of Pendleton, Sarah Zehner of Muncie and Brittney Needler of Muncie; 4 great grandchildren; one niece, several nephews and brother, Jon Melzer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Violet Melzer and twin sister, Marilyn VanNess.
