Marie M. Rolle AKA “Mrs. NAU” passed on March 29, 2014. Marie was born on August 20, 1920 in Greeley, Nebraska to A.B. and Susie Morfeld. After graduating from St. Bonaventure High School in 1937, she moved with family to Arizona. It was in Springerville, Arizona where she would meet her husband of 68 years, Joseph C. Rolle.

Marie moved to Flagstaff in 1950 and worked at Northern Arizona University for many years. She began her career there as the NAU Bookstore Manager and eventually retired as the Director of Career Planning and Placement. After many years of Joe determining  the men’s Most Valuable Player basketball award, Marie founded the Most Valuable Player award for the NAU women’s basketball team.

In honor of both Marie and Joe’s dedication to NAU, the Joe and Marie Award of Excellence was established in 1989 and continues to assist students today and well into the future.  Marie was very active with the faculty wife’s of NAU and was also an honorary Gamma Phi Beta.

Marie was preceded in death by her son, Lawrence M. Rolle, husband Joe Rolle, brothers, Larry, Francis, Joe, Paul and sister Bernice. Marie is survived by her son Charles and wife Julie, daughter JoAnne and husband Steve Harper, and daughter Randi and husband Doug Umlah.
