Marie K. Keeney, 91, of Hellertown, passed away peacefully with her loving daughter Denise by her side on Sunday, October 25, 2015, in St. Luke’s University Hospital – Anderson Campus. She was the widow of Charles E. Keeney, who died in 1979.

Born in Summit Hill, PA, Marie was the eldest of six children of Benjamin and Anna (Kenderish) Macalush. A graduate of Summit Hill High School, Marie worked for many years in restaurants and retail stores, where her strong work ethic was highly valued. As a member of the former Bethlehem Steel Club, Marie participated in bowling leagues, card clubs, and golf, at which she excelled, winning many tournaments, making a hole-in-one, and becoming Club champion several times.

Marie’s main interest was her family, both immediate and extended. She showed her love through her immaculate housekeeping and her wonderful cooking, especially her inimitable spaghetti sauce and Christmas Kiffles. But besides offering her home and hearth, Marie showed her liking for a person if she offered to tell them a joke. She had an impeccable delivery!

Marie was a member of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus R. C. Church, Hellertown. Denise wishes to thank her mother’s various doctors and nurses for their care, and especially the ER staff of St. Luke’s – Anderson for their help in easing Marie gently into that good night.

Survivors: Marie will be forever lovingly remembered by her beloved daughter Denise Bodey of Bethlehem, with whom she recently resided; her sister Shirley Ann Tarbett of Jersey City, NJ; brother Benjamin Macalush and his wife Olga of Coaldale; sisters-in-law Jean Macalush of Bayonne, NJ, Elaine Macalush of Titusville, FL, and Ann Macalush of Delaware; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Marie was predeceased by her brothers Louis, Michael, and Frank.
