After a hard fought battle, Marie Fern Bookout died on July 18, 2015, in the presence of her family, at Nelson Manor in Newton.
Passing on the eve of her 87th birthday, she was born July 19, 1928 in Ness City, Kansas. The family weathered the dust bowl before moving to Missouri, finally settling in Iowa.
Fern worked at Maytag for 37 years retiring in 1988. In her retirement she enjoyed traveling, especially making many trips to Branson. When in Newton, she volunteered much of her time to the RSVP.
She was united in marriage to Henry “Hank” Bookout in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1965.
Those left to remember her are her daughter, Connie Hesse; her sons; Frank (Mary) Dawson, Mark Nalevanko, and Chris Bookout. Her many step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hank, her daughter Sheren Martin, her parents Glenn and Ruth Ross, a sister Betty Katherine in infancy, and sons -in-law Micheal Martin and Pete Hesse.
