Marie Elaine (Sandquist) Hill, 75, of Waukee passed peacefully at Iowa Methodist in the presence of family on January 25, 2022. She was born May 19, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was one of six children of Philip and Beulah Sandquist.
She was a dedicated employee of Mercy Hospital for over 35 years, where she was widely admired by the medical staff and patients alike for her kindness, dependability and work ethic.
She married the love of her life Earl Hill on September 3, 2005. Together they enjoyed movies, eating out and most importantly visiting family. Having never met a stranger, Marie and Earl became well known at numerous restaurants throughout the Des Moines area. It was not uncommon for them to be greeted by name by servers, cashiers and managers. Their genuine kindness endeared them to all they met.
Anyone who knew Marie knew she loved to shower gifts and love to her step daughter and step grandson and her many nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews. She would remember every single one of her family member’s birthdays and anniversaries and made sure she would acknowledge them on their special day. She would do anything for her family and would be the first one to help out if someone needed it. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by many family and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Philip Sr. and Yolanda (Beulah Fontana) Sandquist of Des Moines: brother, David Sandquist of Sierra Vista, AZ; and Gary Sandquist of Johnston, IA. She is survived by her husband Earl Hill of Waukee, IA; brothers, Phillip Jr. (Colleen) Sandquist of Altoona, IA; sisters-in-law, JoAnne Sandquist of Sierra Vista, AZ and Joann Sandquist of West Des Moines, IA; brother Dean (Nancy) Sandquist of Carmel, IN; sister, Jean (Joseph) Passantino of Overland Park, KS; step daughter, Becky Warner; step grandson Zack Knode and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
