Marie E. Benedict Walsh, 80
Averill Park Marie E. Benedict Walsh, 80, of Walsh Lane, Averill Park, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy after a long illness.
Born in Crown Point, New York, she was the daughter of the late Noble Benedict and Helen (Bennett) Benedict, and wife of the late Rensselaer County Legislator William C. Walsh.
She was raised in Crown Point, a graduate of Crown Point High School, and came to Averill Park in 1953.
Mrs. Walsh, with her husband, owned and operated Bashford’s Market in West Sand Lake in the early 1960s and 1970s. She was a Rensselaer County Supreme Court Clerk in the 1980s.
She was a member of Sgt. Walter Adam’s American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Averill Park, active in the Yankee Doodle Quilters, and a former member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Sycaway. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Zagursky (Jay) of Brunswick; two sons, Larry W. Walsh (Lois) of West Sand Lake and Stephen D. Walsh (Rona) of Concord, CA; six grandchildren, Teri Glasser, Kerrie Zagursky, Alexandria Melaragno, Jay Zagursky, Jr., Sean and Amy Walsh; six great grandchildren Tara and Tyler Glasser, Devyn and Lyrec Walsh, and Abagail and Nicholas Melaragno; four sisters and a brother, Arlene Cloutier of NH and Elizabeth Cossey of Ticonderoga and Brenda, Sandra and Timothy and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, her daughter Koreen Ann Walsh and several brothers and sisters, Lloyd, Ivan and Peter Benedict, Leona Peasley, and Joanne Benedict.
