Flagstaff resident Marie Brandreth died Monday Jan 20, 2014 at the age of 90.
Marie was born in Orillia, Ont, Canada on July 19, 1923 to Horace and Mildred Dudenhoffer. She was the oldest of 3 sisters. She had a great childhood growing up on the farm. She traveled out west on the train for new job opportunities to Banff and Lake Louise in the 40’s.
She came to Phoenix on vacation in 1961, and stayed. She married in 1962 and had 2 children. After divorcing, her and the kids moved back to Canada briefly, but returned to Arizona in 1968. She lived in Phoenix until 1995 when she moved to Flagstaff with her daughter.
After she retired, she started to travel. She took numerous bus tours back east and all over the US, and fell in love with Alaska. She was instrumental in helping with her grandchildren, and is a big supporter of Grandparents raising Grandchildren. She also worked and played at the Flagstaff Senior Center.
Her 90th birthday celebration was such a grand event that we are going to consider that our last hoorah. There was such an outpouring of support and so many people attended, it can’t be topped. It is a great remembrance. Cremation will occur, no services will be held.
She is survived by her Aunt Marie of Orillia, Ont, Sister Louise & Eric Gibson of Orillia, Ont, daughter LeighAnn Haskins & Jim Kent of Bayfield CO, daughter Terri Wolter of Canton OH, 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
