BISHOP, MARIE WEAVER, passed away on Wednesday evening April 28, 2010 at her home in Roebuck Springs where she had resided for sixty-two years. She was born to Reverend Edgar E. Weaver and Pearl Wheeler Weaver on December 10, 1919 in Arab, Alabama. She will be remembered as a gracious, humble lady whose very presence was uplifting. For fifty years Marie was a faithful member of South Roebuck Baptist Church. Thirty of those years she loved and taught three year old children with her dear friend, Grace Gregory. For many years Marie and Grace were devoted to visiting South Roebuck’s home- bound members. Her servant heart in ministry was obviously a service for her Lord. Marie was born with God-given musical talent, and she willingly shared this gift as pianist and organist at Lakewood, Eighty- Fifth Street and South Roebuck Baptist Churches in Birmingham. She attended school in Alabama and Indiana, graduating from Holt High School and The University of Alabama. Her devotion to her University and the Crimson Tide was evident even in her dress and accessories year round. In 1996 her family honored her by establishing The Marie Weaver Bishop Endowed Scholarship to The University of Alabama. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Bishop Berry and her husband Fred E. “Rusty” Berry Jr.; granddaughter, Kathryn Marie “Katie Ree “and her husband, William A.” Drew” McCombs, Huntsville, Alabama. Also surviving is her sister, Jeanie Weaver Tucker and her husband Bennett D Tucker, Sr. and their children Dr. Bennett D.” Chip” Tucker Jr., Gadsden, Alabama; Amanda Tucker Cabaniss, Pelham, Alabama and Traci Tucker Dewar. Navarre, Florida. Other survivors include her brother-in-law H. B “Red” Alford, Austin, Texas; sisters-in-law, Ovilee Bishop, Birmingham; Alice Bishop, Nashville, Tennessee and Tamara Bishop, Trussville; several nephews and nieces and grand and great-grand nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, Sherman Bishop and parents, Reverend Edgar E. and Pearl Weaver, she was preceded in death by her brother Crawford Weaver, Tuscaloosa, Alabama and sister, Bonnie Weaver Alford, Austin, Texas.
