Marian Sheffer, age 75, of Rensselaer passed away on January 1, 2015, at the Jasper County Hospital. Marian was born September 4, 1939, in Rensselaer, Indiana to the late Truman and Rosa M. (Ellis) Nelson. She was raised in Wheatfield, where she graduated with the Class of 1958 from Wheatfield High School.

On September 3, 1961, in Wheatfield, Indiana Marian married Harold Dean Sheffer. Surviving are their three children, Cynthia Sheffer (companion Terry) of Monticello, Indiana, Gary (JoEllen) Sheffer of Francesville, Indiana, and Michelle (Donnie) Hutton of Rensselaer. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Kristy (Todd) Ludington, Ronnie (Tailyr) Reed, Adam Younce, Zachary Piatt and Madison Hutton; six great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Khloe, Alaina, Kynadie, Kaycen and Kendrick; her sister, Loretta Allseitz of Medaryville, Indiana and her brother, Deavern (Marguriete) Nelson of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold Dean on May 10, 1986, her twin sister Marlene Fieler and a brother Truman Nelson, Jr.

In 1984, Marian began work as a cook in the kitchen at Rensselaer Central High School. She became the head cook there, retiring in 1998. She had provided child care in her home for many years and had helped operate the School House Inn Restaurant with her mother.

Marian was affiliated with the First Christian Church of Rensselaer and was a past member of the Rensselaer Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary.
