Marian D. Walbeck
Marian D. Walbeck, born on September 14, 1911 in North East, Maryland she was the fifth of eight children of Victor and Alvia Benjamin, in the sixth generation of the family. She graduated from North East High School in 1929, and married the love of her life, Herman Walbeck, on September 30, 1929. At the start of the Great Depression she worked as a waitress at the Midway Restaurant and then as a seamstress at Triumph Explosives. During WW II she was the Navy Munitions Inspector at Triumph. After the War, she worked as a Forelady at Elkport Frocks, as a Plant Manager for Wallick Dress Co., and retired in 1984 from Nanette Mfg. Co., after serving as both the Union Representative and Plant Manager. Following retirement, she pieced and hand-quilted over twenty-five quilts and crafted Santa Clause dolls. She was a fifty-year member of both the Degree of Pocahontas and the Cecil County Homemakers. A life-long Methodist, she was active in the Shelemiah Church of Bay View, MD. Always proud of her Benjamin roots, she organized the first growing African Violets and playing Five Hundred cards, slot machines and BINGO. Until entering Calvert Manor Healthcare Facility in November 2005, she had spent almost her entire life within the Marysville/Leslie community, and enjoyed the many friendships she had made there. Marian is remembered by all as a loving and caring person.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Herman, who died in 1980, her brothers, Lawrence, Otis, Ralph, Vernon, Robert, and Emerson, and her sister Gertrude Lee. She is also survived by her son, Carl Walbeck and his wife Edith Rose of North East, MD, three grandchildren, Barbara England and her husband Bruce of Elkton, MD, David Walbeck and his wife Cathy of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, Patricia Murphy and her husband Lewis of Middletown, MD and eight great-grandchildren
