MARIA H. “MARUKI” TALAVERA, 78, lifelong resident of Lordsburg entered into eternal rest Monday August 24, 2009 at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City.
Maruki, as most knew her, was born October 25, 1930 in Valedon to Ramon and Luz Chaires Herrera. During high school she was an accomplished majorette and cheerleader and after her school years she worked at various local businesses around town. Being the special person she was, Maruki’s life revolved around her family and friends. She would always make you feel at home in her house and you never left there feeling like a stranger. She loved her family, always enjoyed helping raise her grandchildren, and also was very active with St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Bernardo V. Talavera; her children, Feliciano “Chano” Talavera and his wife Tammy, Cindy Gonzalez and her husband Raymond, Lisa Gomez and her husband Ruben, Anna Evans and her husband Larry, Jennifer Barela and her husband Patrick all of Lordsburg; sisters, Josephina “Chepa” Escobar of Compton, CA, Sylvia Duran Reyes of Elgin, TX, Cecilia Mesa of Silver City, Lupita Rodriguez of Riverside, CA; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
