Maria S. Cirbus, 66, of Greensburg, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021. Maria was born June 17, 1954, in Rochester, to the late Rudolph and Mildred (Polovina) Schwartz. She spent her early years in Aliquippa and graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1972, and the University of Pittsburgh in 1976. Following her college graduation, she moved to New York City and received a master’s degree in library science from Columbia University. She married Mark Cirbus, DDS, in 1977, and they lived in New York, the Philadelphia area, and Columbus, Ohio, for Mark’s advanced oral surgery training and residencies, and in Hampton, Va., and Monterey, Calif., where he was an officer in the Army. They, along with son, Rudy, returned to Westmoreland County in the early 1990’s. Mark set up his dental office in Murrysville and Maria worked as a caseworker for the PA Department of Aging in Greensburg. She retired from her state position in 2014. Sadly, Mark passed away in 2003. Maria was an avid reader, and especially loved to watch British dramas. She enjoyed walking with her friends and did so most every day as long as there was no snow or ice to contend with. Maria is survived by her son, Rudy Cirbus, of Dulles, Va., her sister, Catherine (Walter) Kowalick, of Chatsworth, Calif., nephew, Paul Frederick Kowalick, and niece, Stephanie Michelle Kowalick, both of the Los Angeles area. Other relatives are her three first cousins, Jeffrey, Linda and Joseph Polovina. Patty Cekoric, Debbie Gordon and Frances Robb provided a great deal of friendship and support to Maria in recent years. She will truly be missed by all.
