Maria Concepcion “Connie” Rodriguez, 19, was welcomed home by her heavenly father on December 15, 2015. She was surrounded by family when her wings were bestowed upon her.

Maria is survived by her parents, Esteban P. Rodriguez (Hillary Barrientos) and Elma O. Svatos (Richard F. Svatos); son, Emilio Avery Ramirez; soulmate, Eddie Ramirez and his daughters, Elora Ramirez and Brianna Salazar; siblings, Emily Elizarde (Tori Elizarde), Clarissa Rodriguez (J.D. Gonzalez), and Esteban D. Rodriguez (Claire Grossoehmig); godmother, Diana Gutierrez; nieces and nephew, Isaiah Matthew Gonzalez, Trinity Medina, Elliana Myers, Cadence Myers, Kathleen Galceran Myers; sidekicks, Captain and Beauty; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Maxcimo O. Rodriguez and Rosa P. Rodriguez, Jose M. Elizarde and Concepcion O. Elizarde, and Agustina C. Olivo and Jose Olivo; uncles, Homero P. Rodriguez and Saul C. Olivo; and aunts Maria E. Cisneros and Maria I. Elizarde.

Maria was born on November 9, 1996, in Harlingen, Texas. She graduated from Veterans Memorial High School in Brownsville in June 2015. Maria was distinguished as a TSA chapter president and served on the TSA leadership team. She had a specific enthusiasm for transportation modeling and advanced to competition nationally during each of her four years in high school. She was a firm follower of Christ.

Maria had a special place in her heart for animals that were especially needy. She will be remembered for her fearlessness and the way she lived for the moment, despite the obstacles she faced during her short life. One of her favorite quotes was spoken by Walt Disney: “If you can dream it, you can do it. Never stop believing.
