DiCampli1933~2022Maria (nee Menna) DiCampli, age 88, of Springfield, PA, formerly of Havertown and Philadelphia, PA, passed away on April 4, 2022. Maria was born in South Philly to her parents Jesse and Angelina (nee Antonelli). She was an only child and first grandchild in a large, extended family that valued faith, family, hard work, and generosity. Maria was smart, funny, a good listener, and a storyteller, who was the matriarch and confidante of her family. She loved children and spending time withloved ones. She enjoyed cooking Italian style, baking, crossword puzzles, her iPad, playing piano & organ, hosting parties, and communicating with family and friends. Her specialties were spaghetti and crabs, escarole soup, twenty-minute cake, biscotti, Easter bread, and many gourmet Italian dishes. Maria loved to dance and met the love of her life, Joseph V. DiCampli Sr. on a Saturday night at a dance at St. Donato’s in West Philly. Joseph noticed a beauty in a brown taffeta dress with sparkling eyes and a bubbly personality. He asked her to dance to ‘Stardust’ which became their favorite song. The next day she invited him to mass. This began a 74-year love story. Maria and Joseph raised seven children and welcomed grandchildren and great grandchildren with open arms. Their devotion to each other, their children, and their faith in God was the guiding force of Maria’s life. Maria excelled at West Catholic High School for girls and was the Fannie Frosh in her school play. Her working life included employment at a bank. While raising her family, she worked as a local reporter for “The Scene” and spent time waitressing at Luciani’s and working for our neighborhood florist. Holidays and family traditions were important to Maria. She planned many vacations to the shore for her family. Each Christmas she composed the text and layout of her Christmas cards. Many feasts of the seven fishes were lovingly prepared on Christmas eve. Maria was thoughtful, practical, and courteous. We will love her and be grateful for her forever. Maria is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years Joseph V. DiCampli Sr. Maria is also survived by her loving children Angela Bohn (Larry), Anna Castro (Jose), Jesse DiCampli (Mary), Colette Milligan (Marty), Teresa DiCampli, Louis DiCampli (Kim), and Joseph DiCampli Jr. Maria is survived by her cherished grandchildren Jesika, Jackie, Anthony, Brendan, Julia, Lauren, Dan, Maria, Chrissy, Devon, Jackie, Julie, Amanda, Kim, Sam, Jacob, Rachel, and David. Maria is survived by her adored great grandchildren Antonio, Kaiden, Lucienne, Carina, Nicoletta, Jack, CJ, Matteo, Sabrina, Jesse, Vincent, Leah, and Juliana.
