Maria Antionette (Crump) Burns passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 26, 1967, in Washington, DC, Maria was the cherished daughter of Martha Bell Crump and the late Jimmy Crump Sr. Maria graduated from TC Williams High School in 1985 and pursued higher education at Northern Virginia Community College, where she earned her associate’s degree in early childhood education. From a young age, Maria embraced her faith, diligently reading scripture and singing her favorite spirituals. She often led the vocals at family birthday celebrations, her voice an adored highlight. Maria found joy in spending time with her family, traveling, and her weekly Walmart visits. Passionate about working with youth, Maria was always ready to listen, lend a hand, and share her talents in dancing, crafts, and crocheting. She dedicated many years to the Alexandria City Public Schools, The Campagna Center, and Fairfax County’s School Age Child Care program. For the past decade, Maria served as an Executive Assistant at Rividium Inc., where her presence was invaluable. Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory Burns, and her brother, Anthony Crump. She is survived by her mother Martha Crump; her loving children, LaToya Crump and Jeffrey Crump; her grandchildren, A’Niyah Butler, Nasir Nash, Kamari Crump, Morgan Crump, Andre Butler, and Riley Nash; her brother, Reverend Jimmy Crump Jr. (Angela); her sisters, Chyrlette Crump and Thomasina Ford; and a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Maria’s kind and nurturing spirit was a beacon of light to all who knew her. Her heart of gold and genuine care for others ensured that everyone around her felt comfortable and loved. Maria will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
