Margurite Baker was born on January 26th, 1946, in Denver, Colorado to Tom and Corean Adams. She was sixth child born and grew up with her brothers John Quincy and Thomas, and sisters, Norma Jean, Mayrean, Helen, and Jane. As a young woman, Margurite loved to go out with friends but the only way she was allowed to do so was if she took her sisters with her, which she absolutely hated, especially when her brother Sonny would thump her on her head, and she’d have a big ol’ knot on her forehead!
Margurite matriculated through Denver Public Schools graduating from Manual High School in 1962. After graduating, Margurite married Floyd Underwood and they were blessed with the birth of two beautiful daughters, Tracey and Valerie. The union between Margurite and Floyd later dissolved, and they parted ways. In 1970, she married Charles Baker. To this union two beloved children were born. Parrish, and Charles. Margurite was also blessed with the birth of her son Joseph which completed Margurite’s world.
Reminiscing of special times with their mother, Tracey recalls the enjoyment of cooking with her mom. She learned everything she knows from her. Valerie admired her mom for being a great confidant. She could tell her anything and not be judged. Joseph recalls going out to dinner and the conversations they shared. When they were children, Parrish recalls, that Margurite would always say things like, “grown folks are talking, so take yourself back outside and play!” and “I brought you in this world and I can take you out!” or “in or out, either you stay in, or you stay out!” They loved and respected their mom to the utmost.
Margurite was a faithful lifelong member of St.
