Marguerite Vanderburg Harris, 94, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2012. Marguerite was born in Belen, Mississippi in 1918. Moving to Clinton (outside Jackson) during her early teen years, she was President of her Clinton High School class for all 4 years, graduating in 1936. She graduated from Blue Mountain College in 1939 with majors in Business and English, and began her career at Hinds Junior College, MS, teaching Business. In May, 1943, she enlisted in the Navy WAVES and worked for Navy Intelligence in Washington, DC, as a cryptologist during the war years and was honorably discharged in Nov. 1945. Returning to Clinton, MS, she met and later married Lawrence H. Harris in California in 1946. With Lawrence, who worked for the US Army and later as a career diplomat with the US State Department, Marguerite spent several years in Europe (Italy) and in the Orient (Hong Kong).
