Marguerite Eleanore Sullivan, age 98, of Rensselaer passed away April 12, 2011 at the Jasper County Hospital. She was born January 25, 1913, in Laketon, Indiana, the daughter of James and Marguerite (Tracy) Roney. She was a resident of Newton County from 1948 until moving to Jasper County in 1960. On March 31, 1951, in Wabash, Indiana she married Harry David Sullivan who passed away July 20, 1979. Surviving are her children, Eileen Sullivan of Rensselaer and Harry A. (Marla Becker) Sullivan of Pine River, Minnesota and four grandchildren, Nichole Sykes (Tony) Powe of California, Abigale Sullivan, Hollie Lintner and David Sullivan all of Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, Elizabeth, Esther and Mary and one brother, James. Eleanore received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Manchester College, her Indiana State Teachers’ license from Indiana State University, her Physical Education license from Ball State University and her Master’s Degree from Purdue University. She began her teaching career in Shipshewana. She went on to teach at the Remington Schools and the Mt. Ayr Schools, which became North Newton Schools, where she retired from in 1978. Eleanore was the 2nd Newton County Extension Agent to serve the Newton County communities. She was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer, the St. Augustine Study Club and the Pantry Pals Home Extension Club.
