Margo Jean Brockmeyer, age 77, of Spirit Lake and formerly of Lost Island Lake/Ruthven, passed away Thursday July 11, 2013 at the Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was born on June 20, 1936 in Spirit Lake to Leo and Jesse (Poyzer) Happe. Margo graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1954, and went on to earn her college degrees from State Teachers College and UNI in Cedar Falls, Iowa. On August 17, 1957, she was united in Holy Matrimony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake to her loving husband Ronald Brockmeyer. To this union, six children were born, Lynn, Lorrie, Paul, Mary Beth, Tom, and Keith. They devoted their lives to their six children and their activities. Margo touched the lives of many other children as well, as she spent over forty years in the teaching profession and never met a child she wasn’t willing to mother. Ron and Margo were residents of Lake Center, Lake Park, Victor, Lost Island Lake, and most recently Spirit Lake, Iowa. The two of them were a very active team in many service organizations within each community. Margo was also a loyal supporter of Ron’s many activities and work responsibilities. Margo was a scout leader, religious education teacher, in women’s church groups, Jaycees, Betterment Association, Lost Island Protective Association, and volunteered for many other groups and causes. She was a most giving and generous soul. Margo had a creative passion for art, gardening, and writing. She was always willing to share her skills and produce with others. Margo was known to her grandchildren as “Grammie.” She would do anything to help her children, grandchildren, and their friends. She was a great storyteller. She claimed many “world famous” recipes that she shared with all. She will truly be missed by family and friends more than words can say. Margo is survived by her husband, Ron; Son-in-law, Scott Zern, Conrad, Angie (Dan) Reece, Brennan Dickinson, Ankeny, Tim (Kaitlin) Zern, Cedar Falls, Amy (Chad) Tate, Waterloo; Daughter, Lorrie (Mike), Alex, Talia Patton, Hudson; Son, Paul (Tanya) Brockmeyer, Chandler, AZ, Kelcey (D.J.)
