Margery Oltmer, May 5, 1924 – August 4, 2017.

Mrs. Oltmer died Friday, August 4, 2017, in an Austin Hospital.

Margery was born to Carl Charles Nelson and Alice Ion Dobbin-Nelson, May 5, 1924, Craig, Nebraska. She was raised on a farm near Craig, Nebraska.

She married Lavern John Oltmer on July 24, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2002.

Margery and her husband joined the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter in Wahiawa, Oahu, Hawaii in 1949. Her husband Lavern was a 32rd degree Mason for 50+ years. She moved her Eastern Star membership from there and became a dual member of Vashti Chapter #32, Temple, Texas; and Belton #589 in Belton, Texas.  She was organist for these two chapters for several years and Worthy Matron of Vashti Chapter #32, OES in Temple, Texas.

She graduated from Fremont High School in Fremont, Nebraska in 1941 and received her degree as a registered nurse at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska in 1946. She was in the Navy Cadet Nurse Corp from 1942-1944 and continued nursing for many years.  Then in 1969 she received her Bachelor of Arts in Applied Music with a major in Piano and minor in pipe organ from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana.

She traveled to many places with her husband of 58 years as he was a United States Marine Corp’s pilot for 32 ½ years. Upon his retirement as a Colonel, he and Margery purchased the Belton KOA Kampground in 1976.  Later, their daughter Alice bought and took over the business.

Margery and Lavern built Sunbelt RV Center along with their Son Allen, in the mid 80’s. It is now owned and operated by Allen and his wife Ollie.

Margery was a member of the First United Methodist church and Patterson Open Door Sunday School class in Belton. She also spent several years volunteering at Kings Daughters Hospital in Temple, Texas

Survivors are a daughter Alice Zimmerman of Gatesville, a son Allen Oltmer of Belton, a sister Mary Nelson of San Diego, CA, 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
