Margaret Ethel Hall was born on April 17, 1919 in Watertown, SD. She was the second of four children born to William and Elizabeth “Bessie” Watters. Marge grew up in Centerville, SD. It was there she met the love of her life, Walter Hall. The two courted for one year prior to their marriage in 1937. From this union seven children were born: Jeanne, Loretta, Bill, Mary Susan, Judy, and the twins, Kathy and Kristy. The couple lived the majority of their lives in Algona, IA. Walter owned and operated the Algona Implement. Marge worked in the home and cared for their seven children. The couple purchased a vacation home on Lake Okoboji in 1947. The couple also enjoyed traveling, and together traveled to several countries. At one time they both had their pilot’s license and owned a plane. Walter later passed on July 5th, 1984. After Walter’s death, Marge made the lakes area her permanent home. Marge continued to travel extensively, and even walked the Great Wall of China. Marge was passionate about cards, but she was especially a bridge enthusiast. She earned enough points to achieve the Silver Life Master status. She possessed a true flare for art. This talent presented itself through her crocheting, portrait painting, painting wood carved water fowl, and other art projects. Most of all, Marge was a consummate hostess. Marge would welcome any spur of the moment guest and make them feel as welcome as if it were planned. She was a spunky entertainer and a great cook. Marge truly cherished spending time with her 7 children, 17 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. She got a real kick out of being referred to as “Granny Marge.” Marge passed away October 2, 2012, at the Milford Nursing Center with her families love surrounding her. She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Bessie Watters, brothers John and Bill Watters, sister Lorraine Sharp, her husband Walter Hall, and two of grandchildren, Jennifer and Carter Manly.
