Portage, MI Margaret “Val” Tooley, age 93, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Harold and Grace UpJohn Community Care Center. Val was born on May 31, 1920 in Hammond, Indiana, a daughter of Edward Hartzler and Margaret Stickle Harztler. Val married Edward H. Tooley on Christmas Eve, 1939. To their union was born Jackie “Lynn” Ronald Monroe of Portage and Arthur “Kin” Tooley also of Portage. She was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Jim, Kathy, Ken, Coby and Andrew, and 8 great grandchildren, whom she loved very much. Val was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sister.
Val’s passion centered around her love of her family as well as her love of animals, especially dogs. She was a homemaker most of her life but also enjoyed several years as the manager of the jewelry department at the Miracle Mart on Portage Road.
