Margaret Streit, age 88, of Spirit Lake, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake. She was born on July 28, 1925, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Alfred and Eileen Murray. Margaret graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1946, as a registered nurse. She worked at the Sheldon Hospital as a surgical nurse and helped implement the local Chapter of the American Red Cross. Margaret was united in marriage to Don Streit on June 4, 1947. Don passed away on July 1, 2013. Margaret was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, PEO and the Adoration Society. She enjoyed spending her time playing cards, especially bridge and 500, golfing, reading and entertaining. Margaret loved her Irish heritage and her children, grandchildren and extended family. Margaret is survived by her four children, Patricia Ray, and her husband, Gary, Michael J. Streit, and his wife, Sonya, Dennis Streit, and his wife, Patti, and Daniel Streit, and his wife, Candi; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Murray and Rita Murray; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; and a brother, John Murray.
