Margaret “Peggy” Hoot, 96, of Huntertown, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Grey Stone Nursing & Rehab in Fort Wayne.

She was born in Kokomo on December 9, 1925, to the late C. Leland & Mary Ann (Ziegler) Rogers. She spent her formative years in Kokomo and graduated from Chippewa High School in 1944 and attended Manchester College.

Peggy was married to Darrell William Hoot on September 12, 1947. The couple lived in the Churubusco, Ege, LaOtto, and Huntertown areas for 66 years. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2012.

She worked at Delco Reme in Kokomo, Lincoln Life, and Magnavox while retiring in 1990. She taught private Kindergarten for over 10 years.

Peggy was always busy. She was a 4H leader, Square Dance Co-President, Lion’s Club concession worker, and helped with lunches at the Woodworkers Club. She was past president of Huntertown Homemakers Club, past secretary of Allen County Homemakers Clubs, past president of Tawasi Chapter Professional Secretaries International and being Indiana President in 1990. She belonged to the Churubusco Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was District Deputy in 1963 as well as Queen of Teti Sheri Temple #60 Daughters of the Nile in 1998.

Peggy is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Dave) Wagner; two sons, Ronald (Sharon) Hoot and Roger (Nancy) Hoot; a daughter-in-law, Apryl Hoot; 18 grandchildren, Josh (Tracy) Hoot, Kate (Jeff) Kever, Jennie Chen, Joachima (Joey Linn) Hoot, Nik Hoot, Ged Hoot, Mitch Hoot, Emmalee Hoot, Gregory (Andrea) Wagner, Jeremy (Stephanie) Wagner, Daniel (Jill) Wagner, Andrew (Kimberly McCormick) Wagner, Lorissa Watson, Nathan (Joy) Hoot, Jason (Johanna) Hoot, Carita (Nathan) Davoli, Sarah (Mark) Grorud, and Isaac (Carrie) Hoot; 37 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Jay Hoot on April 10, 2020; her brother, Robert Leland Rogers on January 21, 2006; a granddaughter, Jianna Hoot; several great-grandchildren.
