Margaret “Peggy” J. Coan, 81, died on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Heartland Health Care and Rehab, Galesburg.
She was born on March 16, 1940 in Galesburg, the daughter of Bill and Betty (Higgins) Allison.
Peggy graduated from Galesburg High School in 1958 and worked at Intra-State Phone Company until 1962. She received her associates degree from Brown’s Business College. While in college, she received appointment to FBI in Washington, DC in 1964.
Margaret moved to Chicago in 1969 and worked for Mass Insurance Consultants and Administrators, where she later became a benefit supervisor for the Central Pension Fund for one of her clients.
She moved back to Washington, DC in 1970 and 10 years later moved back to Galesburg. Peggy worked at Cottage Hospital in Development and Public Relations and briefly at Knox College.She married Dr. Bernard W. Coan on January 3, 1981. They both retired and purchased a Motor Home and traveled to every state, wintering in Wesco, TX; Zuma, AZ; and Fort Myers Beach, FL.
Peggy enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, and golfing. She loved needlework, sports, and was the best at making her homemade jelly.
Margaret was of the catholic faith. Their traveling journey came to an end when Dr. Coan passed away on April 20, 2009.
Margaret is survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 28 years; two sisters, Barbara M. Lansing and Patricia A. Ahline; and one nephew, Bill Lansing.
