Margaret A. “Meg” Kaufmann, 88, of Jacksonville, IL died Saturday evening, August 17, 2013 at her home.
She was born May 18, 1925 in Streator, IL, the daughter of Walter D. Sr. and Sarah Allen Lonergan. She married Robert Kaufmann Jr. on July 15, 1950 in Jacksonville, IL and he preceded her in death on January 24, 1987.
She is survived by six children, Christine Galloway (husband, Jon) of Wayzata, MN, Stephen Kaufmann (wife, Carol) of Springfield, Paul Kaufmann (wife, Candy) of Town & Country, MO, Elizabeth Smith (husband, Michael) of Omaha, NE, Dick Kaufmann (wife, Erin) of Crystal Lake, and Emily Kaufmann (husband, Jeff Gilliland) of Las Vegas, NV; nine grandchildren, Robert Galloway of New York, NY, Kate Gould (husband, Kyle) of Upland, IN, Meg Johnson (husband, Mark) of Sioux Falls, SD, David Kaufmann of Tampa, FL, Karena Kaufmann of Town & Country, MO, Ashley Dorrington (husband, Michael) of Milwaukee, WI, Sarah Jane Smith of Chicago, and Will and Thomas Kaufmann, both of Crystal Lake; two great grandchildren, Claire Johnson and Caroline Dorrington; three sisters, Sarah Dietrich of Jacksonville, Jane Mlnarik of Fremont, MI, and Harriet Sutton (husband, Robert) of Gurnee; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Lonergan Jr. and a sister in infancy, Laura Catherine Lonergan.
Meg was a 1943 graduate of Routt High School and a 1947 graduate of MacMurray College. She began a distinguished career in teaching multiple handicapped students at the Illinois Braille and Sight Saving School and transferred to Illinois School for the Deaf where she continued teaching for over 25 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour, the Altar & Rosary Society, and Catholic Daughters of America. In addition, she was a devoted member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. An avid and talented bridge player, Meg participated in several bridge clubs, including a dedicated group of friends who played monthly for over 60 years. She enjoyed reading, travel, and was devoted to her entire family.
